As I have searched for poetry to set, I have made a disturbing discovery. Far too often, the work of women poets has a way of disappearing into obscurity. I have not found this fact surprising as I have found the same issue in my research of women's music compositions. I have found it rather frustrating and have become passionate about setting the work of women poets.

It happens far too often that I will happen to find a poem written by a woman, and I have an incredibly difficult time finding out any information about the poet. I found a poem in a poetry magazine from 1919 by Marjorie Booth which I adored, but I could not find any information about Booth herself. I set the poem, “Christmas-Tree Magic,” but unfortunately could not offer any information about the poet.

I do not exclusively set the work of women poets, but I do have a passionate soft spot for their work and will continue to champion it. If anyone has information about the poets whose work I have set, I whole-heartedly encourage you to message me. Sometimes the poets are well known such as Elizabeth Barrett Browning or Christina Rossetti, but in the case of poets such as Marjorie Booth and Gertrude Millard, I just cannot find biographical information. I hope I am helping to preserve their work and expose it to a new generation.
